Klout Score... For VIP Access to Hollywood Clubs?

At Playhouse Nightclub, in Hollywood, CA, they are now using the social media phenomenon Klout to determine who gets (and doesn't get) VIP access into the club! This is a rather interesting move by the nightclub, given that a growing number of companies, in their hiring process, use Klout to determine a candidate's eligibility.

Playhouse has partnered with Klout so that people with a Klout score of 50+ (on a scale of 1-100) can get VIP access. Your Klout score is a number that ranks, based on Klout's algorithm, your influence in social networks. It takes your facebook, twitter, linkedin, and other social media outlet account's into consideration.

It's interesting that Playhouse has utilized a social media partnership to help get people through their doors. This means that Playhouse wants to honor the people who are most influential amongst their friends in social networks. This is a rather bold move in my opinion, but one that can pay off for the nightclub too. Given people who are more influential within their social networks will post most-often about the club and what-not, this should make more people aware of Playhouse's events / get people through their doors!

It sounds good in theory, but will it work? Is this partnership better for Klout, Playhouse, both, or neither?? I guess only time will tell - let's see if this partnership is here to stay!
